La Palmyre zoo

The zoological park of la Palmyre is actually the most popular in France and one of the most famous accross Europe. It was founded in 1966 by Claude Caillé 15km away from the city of Royan, and it is now part of the regional inheritance.

It covers more than 100,000 Sq. ft. in a natural site where people can observe as much as 1600 animals, representing more than 130 species, among which elephants, gorillas, tigers and polar bears.

Kids : 10€ (free for children aged 3 and less)

Exit n° 35 "Saintes"

Bordeaux > Paris
Exit n° 37 "Mirambeau"

From Cognac you need 1 hour and a half to get to the zoo by national way N150 or route départementale D732.
